FleetBoston Financial Corporation
Boston, MA
GOAL
With a growing number of branches and ATMs acquired in recent years, FleetBoston instituted a corporate-wide program to assess environmental issues and standards across its branches and ATMs. The financial services provider sought to survey its entire retail branch and remote ATM portfolio throughout eight east coast states to get a better understanding of the conditions of each building and existing needs at each location. FleetBoston wanted to ensure that all branches and ATMs represented the Bank’s high-quality standards and provided a consistent customer and employee experience across all retail locations.
OBSTACLES
Prior to working with VFA, all physical plant and maintenance information was stored in decentralized databases.
Given decentralized facilities data that was often inconsistent or outdated, it was increasingly difficult to gain a comprehensive picture of existing portfolio conditions across its retail network. FleetBoston sought objective and accurate data to support capital planning and budgeting decisions.
FleetBoston sought to identify building and design issues to strengthen customer and employee experiences and meet its defined retail environmental branding standards.
SOLUTION
VFA conducted a detailed facility assessment audit of FleetBoston’s retail network of 2,400 branches and remote ATMs.
VFA’s CPMS™ approach, included the provision of VFA.facility®. The software solution created a centralized repository of detailed building information enabling FleetBoston to implement a coordinated and comprehensive approach to the management of its retail facilities.
VFA’s software solution included an inventory tracking component that enabled FleetBoston to access data on very specific items, such as color codes, material types and mechanical systems’ useful lives.
PAYOFF
VFA has enabled FleetBoston to meet project goals in terms of surveying locations, updating the database and developing budgets.
VFA’s facilities assessment services and software solution have enabled FleetBoston to address items ranging from the condition of the parking lot to the level of customer privacy in order to obtain an accurate inventory of each building’s design and renewal needs for budgeting and capital planning purposes.
The assessments will allow FleetBoston to prepare a plan to present a consistent image as the leading commercial banking provider in the Northeast by addressing functional and design inconsistencies resulting from growth and acquisitions.
