Facilities
BOSTON – October 9, 2007 – VFA, Inc., the leading provider of end-to-end solutions
for facilities capital planning and asset management, today announced that the University at Buffalo,
The State University of New York, has adopted VFA solutions to promote the effective management of its
investments in its campus facilities as part of a comprehensive master plan. The master plan is being
developed as part of UB 2020, the University's strategic plan through which it will attain
40 percent growth between now and the year 2020 and rise among the ranks of the nation's leading
public research universities. The master plan will serve as the foundation for the growth of UBs
campus centers in Amherst, North Buffalo and downtown Buffalo.
Beyer Blinder Belle Architects & Planners, working in collaboration with UBs Building UB team,
will lead the development of the plan, which aims to transform the universitys three campuses into
a model 21st-century public university. In addition to VFA, subcontractors include landscape architects
Andropogon Associates of Philadelphia and academic-space programmers DEGW of Chicago. The contract is
funded by UBs capital budget, which is managed through the State University of New York
Construction Fund. The comprehensive master plan is expected to be completed in March 2009.
The University at Buffalo maintains the largest campus in the State University of New York, with more than
10.1 million square feet of facilities, including medicine and biomedical laboratories and applied
science and engineering research centers. Under the terms of the agreement, VFA is providing detailed
assessments of the condition of approximately 200 facilities. The university will also license
VFA.facility® software to support ongoing facilities capital planning. VFA.facility will enable
the university to maintain detailed information about building conditions and to accurately forecast
maintenance and renewal requirements.
“VFA has a long track record of helping higher education institutions to ensure that each dollar they spend to renew and maintain their campus is in support of their long-term goals and objectives, said Jerry Kokos, VFA President and CEO. The University at Buffalos selection of VFA demonstrates its recognition of the strategic role facilities play in promoting academic excellence and advancing its mission to be a leader and innovator among public universities.”
