VFA Performs State-Wide Facilities Condition Assessment for Idaho Department of Correction

Part of Strategic Planning Directive, Assessments Help State Officials Perform Capital Renewal Analysis of Facilities, Develop Facilities Management System

BOSTON, MA - July 17, 2006 - VFA®, Inc., the leading provider of software and services for facilities capital planning and asset management and capital planning, today announced that it has completed assessments of facilities used by the State of Idaho Department of Correction (DOC), documenting current condition and identifying deferred maintenance requirements. VFA completed the assessments as part of a contract that also includes the implementation of VFA.facility® software for ongoing management of facility data and evaluation of capital needs.

Idaho is the fourth state to engage VFA for assessment of correctional department facilities, following Louisiana, Missouri and Virginia. To date, VFA has assessed more than 3,600 buildings and nearly 26 million square feet for state correctional departments.

In Idaho, VFA assessed more than 160 buildings totaling nearly 2 million square feet of facilities managed by the Department of Correction. The comprehensive condition audit is part of a State of Idaho strategic planning directive to evaluate the current condition of correctional facilities, determine the functional adequacy of those facilities to meet State needs, and identify and prioritize deferred maintenance and capital renewal requirements to support the functional operations of the facilities.

VFA.facility software will provide a central database of facility asset information to support the ongoing management of plant assets and the development of long-term capital plans for State correctional facilities.

“With the detailed information about facilities and related systems that the VFA assessments have provided, coupled with the decision support tools in VFA.facility, the State of Idaho will have a solid foundation for making optimal decisions about deferred maintenance and capital renewal investments across the State correctional system,” said Pat Donaldson, Facility Services Manager, State of Idaho Department of Correction.

VFA has previously provided facility assessments and software for the State of Idaho Department of Administration, including assessment of almost one million square feet of state-owned facilities in Boise.

“VFA’s work for the State of Idaho demonstrates how important it is for state governments to manage their large existing portfolio of facilities effectively and plan for meeting increasing maintenance and capacity needs,” said David Raffin, Vice President, State/Local Government and Education, at VFA.
