This half-day seminar will feature different assessment approaches used to determine the condition of facilities in organizations with large real estate portfolios, and to support the capital planning process. Presentations will include case studies on facilities assessment initiatives at two federal agencies, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

The session will walk attendees through the steps of developing and implementing a capital planning and management strategy that considers the value of the complete building portfolio and supports long-range budgeting. The presentation will feature a case study highlighting the province-wide approach employed by the British Columbia Ministry of Health Services, and provide an overview of its technology-supported capital planning and management solution.

A presentation on the National Institutes of Health’s recent assessment initiative will provide an overview of the detailed facilities condition assessment methodology used at NIH across its 12 million square feet of facilities, including laboratories, and research institutions, medical schools and hospitals. It will also profile the supporting systems the organization employs for facility management, capital planning and asset protection.
