VFA to Partner with New Jersey School Construction Corporation; Smarter, Faster Long-Range Facilities Plans to Result
New Jersey's 600+ School Districts to Use VFA Software in Development of
Five-year Facility/Capital Plans
Boston, MA January 18, 2005 VFA, Inc., the leading provider of software and services for facilities management and capital planning, today announced it has signed a visionary agreement with the New Jersey Schools Construction Corporation (SCC). This is the latest in a string of successful partnerships that have built upon VFA's long-standing relationship with the NJ Department of Education, which began in 2000 with the successful deployment of a tailored Web-based, long-range facility planning application.
Under the new agreement, VFA will deliver to the SCC a Web-based, customized document management system that integrates VFAfacility®, VFA's flagship software, and Documentum, a document management and workflow system from EMC Corporation that will be supplied by Entology, Inc. Working with VFA's software, the state's school districts will be able to develop five-year capital plans for facility care, maintenance and re-investment. In addition, the districts can use the integrated system to combine facilities condition and capital planning data with the SCC's existing database for more efficient tracking of projects. As a result, the SCC will be able to track projects more efficiently as they proceed from initial proposals through construction.
"Our objective is to provide safe, healthy and high quality school facilities. In support of our efforts to meet this goal, we sought a software program that would allow us to work effectively with the Department of Education as well as with all of the state's school districts to communicate effectively on the progress of all building-related projects," said Jack Spencer, CEO of the SCC. "The combination of VFA.facility with Documentum and our own internal software applications creates a powerful tool that will streamline the project submission and approval process and deliver increased productivity."
SCC plans to implement VFA's customized solution statewide as the primary channel for accessing and updating all facilities and capital planning data. As a result, the 600-plus school districts across the state will gain a better understanding of the status of building repair and renewal projects in the DOE's approval process. The system will also provide districts with the decision support and analysis tools required to project student enrollment and evaluate existing capacity, allowing districts to explore various options for building use and operation.
"We applaud the New Jersey Schools Construction Corporation for its recognition of buildings as a critical ingredient in ensuring that the children of New Jersey receive a quality education, and for its proactive efforts to identify and plan for their educational infrastructure," said Jerry Kokos, president and CEO, VFA. "We are pleased to expand our relationship with the state of New Jersey and support the development of its school districts' long-range facilities plans."
