VFA EXPANDS SCOPE OF WORK WITH NATIONAL INSTITUTES OF HEALTH Based on Successes with National Institutes of Health, VFA to Deliver Software and Services to National Cancer Institute
Boston, MA November 16, 2004 VFA, Inc., the leading provider of software and services for facilities management and capital planning, today announced it has been awarded the Symposium Distinction Design Team Award. Honored at the Healthcare Design Symposium, the award recognizes VFA for its contributions as a member of Team Army in creating a recapitalization plan for the U.S. Army health facilities inventory. This facility portfolio, valued at approximately $7.8 billion, encompasses more than 1,640 buildings and 29 million square feet worldwide.
Building on its long-term relationship with the National Institutes of Health (NIH), VFA, Inc. announced today it will deploy its software and services for facilities management and capital planning to the National Cancer Institute (NCI), a component agency of NIH, at its Frederick, Md. campus. VFA's solution will equip NCI with a centralized database where facility condition and capital planning data can be maintained, analyzed and shared within the institute as well as with NIH. As part of its expanded contract with NIH, VFA will also provide its consulting services, helping the agency to analyze condition data, prioritize projects and allocate funding.
"Since implementing VFA's solution in 2002, we've learned the tremendous value a strategic building condition assessment methodology can deliver in terms of pinpointing where attention and resources should be directed," said Ed Bain, Chief of the Business Support Branch/DPM, National Institutes of Health. "By deploying VFA's software and services at the National Cancer Institute, we expect to realize even greater accuracy and efficiency in budgeting and planning for facilities needs across our portfolio."
NCI coordinates the National Cancer Program, which conducts and supports research, training and health information dissemination. The agency needed a facilities capital planning solution that would align with the existing program managed by NIH, allowing both organizations to compare and contrast existing facilities conditions, prioritize expenditures and develop on-target budget requests. VFA's Web-based software, VFA.facility, and services will be utilized throughout NCI's 100 buildings and 1.5 million square feet of space at its Frederick, Md. campus.
"The expansion of our relationship with the National Institutes of Health validates the pivotal role strategic facilities management plays in an organization's success," said Jerry Kokos, president and CEO of VFA. "These innovative agencies should be commended for their adoption of best practices in establishing a strategic approach to facility care."
