VFA RECOGNIZED FOR INNOVATIVE WORK WITH U.S. ARMY’S WORLDWIDE HEALTH FACILITIES PORTFOLIO Leading Facility Software and Services Company Receives Symposium Distinction Design Team Award
Boston, MA February 10, 2004 VFA, Inc., the leading provider of software and services for facilities management and capital planning, today announced it has been awarded the Symposium Distinction Design Team Award. Honored at the Healthcare Design Symposium, the award recognizes VFA for its contributions as a member of Team Army in creating a recapitalization plan for the U.S. Army health facilities inventory. This facility portfolio, valued at approximately $7.8 billion, encompasses more than 1,640 buildings and 29 million square feet worldwide.
Designed to honor merit in the administration and care of healthcare facilities, the Symposium Distinction Design Team Award is granted to the products, teams and individuals that have made significant contributions to innovate healthcare facility programs. The award was presented to Team Army, a group comprised of representatives from VFA, the U.S. Army Health Facility Planning Agency, the Office of the Surgeon General, SmithGroup, the Innova Group and Bristol Group Mitretek.
“A strategic capital reinvestment plan for facilities is critical to ensuring optimal delivery of services, whether in healthcare, research, education or manufacturing,” said Jerry Kokos, president and CEO, VFA. “This award reconfirms that VFA is leading its competition in offering the most advanced capital planning solutions in the facility management market today. We are honored by the Healthcare Symposium’s recognition of our role in Team Army, and we are proud of the impact our assessment services and capital planning software are making to support the quality-care mission of the Army’s worldwide medical facilities.”
In its work with Team Army, VFA led a detailed assessment of facility codes and conditions of the U.S. Army’s medical inventory worldwide. As a result, the U.S. Army gained for the first time a complete database that identifies and quantifies all deferred maintenance and required functional improvements across the Army’s health facilities portfolio. Team Army used this information as the basis of the recapitalization master plan for the full health facilities inventory.
“The level of detail obtained with respect to the breadth and scope of work is truly remarkable. The sheer magnitude and complexity of this project, and its potential impact throughout the world, set it apart from the many excellent design projects nominated for this award,” said Susan Helmer, editor of FacilityCare, sponsor of the Distinction Design Team Awards. “The team is to be applauded for their commitment to their mission, and to each other, over many years and many miles.”
