VFA DELIVERS FACILITIES CAPITAL PLANNING AND ASSET MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE AND SERVICES TO UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS

University Leverages VFA.facility and VFA's Facility Condition Assessment Methodology to Identify and Prioritize Deferred Maintenance and Renewal Projects

Boston, MA - March 13, 2002 - VFA, an industry leader in facilities assessments and Web-based solutions for annual and long range facility planning and budgeting, today announced the deployment of its software and facility condition assessment methodology at the University of Illinois. VFA.facility, VFA's core Web-based software platform, is being used across the Urbana-Champaign, Chicago, and Springfield campuses to centralize the University's facility management program and enable school officials to leverage enterprise-wide building data in funding requests and project planning.

VFA's facility condition assessment methodology, a proven and consistent means of gathering accurate and reliable building condition information across an organization, enables the University of Illinois to identify and prioritize its deferred maintenance and facilities renewal projects across the three dispersed campuses. The University-wide facilities conditions audit covers approximately 28.6 million square feet of space and more than 750 buildings. Using VFA.facility and VFA's assessment methodology, the information gathered in the audit arms University officials with the tools required to estimate funding for building maintenance projects, from improving facility life-safety features to decreasing future deterioration of building components.

"As a leading research institution, it is essential that we have the ability to identify and prioritize facility projects campus-wide in support of our educational mission," said Jack Dempsey, PhD, P.E., Director of Operation and Maintenance Division, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. "By implementing VFA.facility, we gain one central database of information, which we can use in budget planning and in forecasting critical construction and renovation projects. Furthermore, training our staff to use VFA's facility condition assessment software ensures that the data gathered is accurate, reliable and serves as an excellent tool for establishing benchmarks and prioritizing future tasks."

"The University of Illinois understands the critical role facilities hold in its ability to provide an environment that fosters academic excellence," said Jerry Kokos, president and CEO of VFA. "The power to predict the peaks and valleys in facility renewal and repair costs gives administrators the utmost confidence in their yearly budget planning process. Dynamic facility lifecycle management delivers universities the complete capital planning and management solution required for long-term success."

VFA.facility -VFA's benchmark software solution - is a Web-based collection tool that enables users to gather and maintain a repository of detailed building information across an entire property portfolio to support a coordinated and comprehensive approach to facilities capital management. VFA's Capital Planning and Management Solutions (CPMS™), an integration of technology and methodology, empowers users to assess and measure building conditions, update condition information rapidly and communicate the data to facility managers and superiors at sites across the country - all in a timely, cost-efficient manner.
