Facilities Assessment Consultants

Our Facilities Consultants are responsible for performing assessment services in a fast-paced, highly efficient environment. Degree in Architecture or Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or professional facilities management experience. Engineering candidates will ideally have crossover experience between ME and EE. 5-10 years of facilities management-related experience; strong working knowledge of building systems in one or more architectural, mechanical or electrical engineering disciplines; strong computer, technical and cost-estimating skills; US and international travel required (mostly North America); willingness to work on a contract basis with no benefits.

Software Development

Principal Database Administrator (DBA)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Principal DBA is responsible for providing ongoing support for VFA’s Software-as-a-Service based solutions for our customers and internal end users, as well as for the internal cross-functional software project teams tasked with delivering the next generation of our database-centric products.
The position’s responsibilities are critical and comprehensive, and include, but are not limited to, database server installations, schema updates, data migrations, upgrades, patches, user maintenance, troubleshooting, backup management, performance tuning, table space management, data recovery, and disaster recovery planning. The Principal DBA is a key member of our new product deployment initiatives, and along with our deployment teams, will be required to perform certain types of system and infrastructure updates during non-core business hours.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform database system and infrastructure updates in line with the release objectives of VFA’s product roadmap. Key resource for data related deployment tasks.
  • Support all database environments utilized by customers, partners, internal users and software development / test staff. Each of these environments includes multiple Production, Staging, QA Test and Development databases.
  • Data refreshes / migrations between the different environments.
  • Collaboration and integration with the Product Development, Quality Assurance and IT teams on new product initiatives, which include major, minor/maintenance, and hotfix releases.
  • SQL/PLSQL scripting.
  • Shell scripting.
  • Database monitoring.
  • Database / query tuning.
  • Database backup and recovery using RMAN.
  • Creation and maintenance of database tools.
  • Data recovery (in the case of end user error).
  • Documentation of plans and deliverables.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 8+ years in Production DBA role(s), of increasing scope and responsibility.
  • 5+ years of recent Oracle DBA experience, inclusive of version Oracle 11g and associated utilities.
  • Experience managing Oracle on both Linux and Windows.
  • Experience automating developer processes.
  • Experience with Oracle Enterprise Manager / OEM Grid Control.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills within the entire database environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Oracle RMAN.
  • Strong knowledge of Oracle data recovery techniques.
  • Ability to participate in and perform database capacity planning.
  • Knowledge of Linux System Administration.
  • Experience with server virtualization (i.e., VMWare)
  • Exhibits good project management skills including estimating, status reporting and scope management.
  • Exhibits solid organization skills and the ability to efficiently multi-task.
  • A customer oriented attitude.

Additionally, experience in any of the following areas are pluses:

  • Creation of database development and architecture standards and processes
  • “Ownership” of the data architecture
  • ETL / Data warehouse design and implementation

Customer Support Specialist (Technical)

HOURS: Monday – Friday 12 Noon to 9:00 PM

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Customer Support Specialist (Technical) is primarily responsible for providing levels 1 and 2 technical support for our web-based software applications as well as triage for level 3 cases. The incumbent will field customer inquiries through email, telephone calls and in-person and will use their knowledge of our products and technology in general to resolve problems and/or to assist users in the use of the products. They will document incidents; update management on high profile issues; and prepare reports for management review. They may provide input on product enhancements and provide test support to Quality Assurance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Respond to customer inquiries and problem reports through various channels (telephone, email, and in person).
  • Document all incidents and resolutions using helpdesk ticketing system; follow up on outstanding issues and provide closure.
  • Work closely with the Development and IT groups to resolve customer issues and provide suggestions for future product enhancements.
  • Keep Management and other staff informed on the status of important customer issues.
  • Provide input to knowledge base, FAQs, formal documentation, training course, etc.
  • Assists in preparation of helpdesk statistics, support documentation and in quality review of call logs. Incumbent will also assist in preparation of other required reports.
  • Provide QA test support as needed during release cycles.
  • Develop and propose process improvements as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Requires an Associate’s Degree in a technology field or equivalent along with 1 to 2 years experience in a technical support or help-desk environment. Experience supporting a web-based software product is strongly desired
  • Experience documenting incidents and resolutions using a Helpdesk Management / Call Tracking system is required
  • A demonstrated ability to understand both customer and internal user needs while providing input on product enhancements is essential
  • Excellent inter-personal and customer service skills as well as strong oral and written communication skills are required
  • Strong working knowledge of Internet Explorer is essential
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem solving skills
  • Experience in process improvement initiatives

Principal Software Engineer/Technical Team Lead

This key position will play a critical role in the architecture, design and development of innovative web-based and mobile applications.

We are seeking a Principal Engineer/hands-on Team Lead (60%-70% coding) with 7+ years in web-based software development (J2EE) focused on front-end web UI development based on HTML5/Javascript frameworks. Prior experience with developing mobile applications (iOS and Android) is a plus.

This person will lead and mentor a small team (2-4 people) and work within a cross-functional team to deliver software releases of one of VFA’s flagship products following Agile development methodology.

This is an exciting career opportunity for the right candidate with a combination of architecture, hands-on Java/J2EE/Javascript development, and team leadership skills.

Required Skills

  • 7+ years of experience with building commercial software applications in a J2EE environment at a SaaS or web application company
  • Demonstrated architecture and design skills
  • Strong understanding of DOM, JSON, and cross browser issues (IE 7/8/9, Safari, Firefox, Chrome)
  • Working experience with one or more Javascript frameworks (ExtJS, jQuery, YUI)
  • Strong HTML/DHTML/CSS with an eye for good looking design.
  • Advanced OO Javascript skills
  • Solid understanding of MVC applied to OO principles, patterns, relational databases
  • Team leadership and mentoring skills
  • Experience with a complete SDLC utilizing Agile development methodologies
  • Mobile application development experience (Android or iOS) is a plus
  • SOA/Web services experience is a plus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • BS or MS in Computer Science or related fields, or equivalent.
